Birding in Cape May
Large populations of birds can be found in Cape May due to its location at the southern tip of New Jersey as well as due to numerous nature reservoirs and wildlife refuges. Cape May offers a great variety of habitats for migrating birds: Salt marshes and fresh water marshes, swamp or wet woods, pine forests, grasslands and open fields.
Especially during spring and fall migration the bird species diversity is tremendously high and exiting for each birder - no wonder that John Audubon has been a regular visitor!
Cape May is home to Red Knots, Ruddy Turnstones, Sanderlings, Yellow-throated Warblers, Wood Thrushes and Ospreys.
